GoDaddy is the world's largest domain registrar and one of the most recognized brands in web hosting. The domain business is genuinely good. The hosting business is a different story: slowest performance in our testing, the most aggressive upselling, no free SSL on the cheapest plan, no free backups, and a renewal price that doubles.
Our advice is simple: buy your domain at GoDaddy, host it somewhere else. InterServer, Hostinger, or SiteGround are all faster, cheaper, and include the features GoDaddy charges extra for.
Understanding GoDaddy requires understanding their business model. They're not primarily a hosting company they're a cross-sell machine. The domain registration gets you in the door. Then:

July was rough 2.1s load time and 99.78% uptime (1.6 hours of downtime). The summer months consistently showed degradation, suggesting overcrowded shared servers. For comparison, Kinsta's worst month was 0.45s with 99.95% uptime. SiteGround never dropped below 99.95%.
GoDaddy's hosting dashboard is functional but cluttered. Every page has at least one upsell prompt. The cPanel access is available but GoDaddy pushes their own "My Products" interface first.

GoDaddy offers both shared hosting with WordPress and a separate "Managed WordPress" product. We tested the shared hosting plan. The WordPress experience is basic it works, but there's nothing special about it.

Performance
No server-side caching included. You need a caching plugin (WP Super Cache, W3 Total Cache). Hostinger and SiteGround include this built-in.

Not available on shared hosting. Only on Managed WordPress plans ($6.99/mo+).

GoDaddy's domain registration business is genuinely good. It's the one area where we have no major complaints.
Our recommendation: buy domains at GoDaddy (or Cloudflare Registrar for at-cost pricing), then point nameservers to your actual host. You don't need to transfer the domain to switch hosting.
GoDaddy offers phone, chat, and ticket support. The phone option is increasingly rare in hosting. Quality varies widely.

The SSL ticket was telling. We asked why SSL wasn't working on our Economy plan. The agent's first response was to recommend purchasing GoDaddy's SSL add-on ($7.99/mo) rather than helping us set up Let's Encrypt (free). When we pushed back, they eventually helped but the instinct to sell first, support second, is baked into the culture.
No free SSL on the cheapest plan. No free backups on any plan. No malware scanning. No WAF. In 2026, these are table stakes every competitor includes them. GoDaddy charges extra for all of it.
Largest TLD selection, reliable DNS, domain auctions. The domain business is genuinely good.
One of the few hosts still offering phone support. Useful for non-technical users who prefer voice.
