How RackNerd Pricing Works

The one thing that matters: Whatever price you sign up at, that's your renewal price too. A $10.18/yr VPS stays $10.18/yr next year and every year after. I've verified this on my own accounts.

๐Ÿ“…

Sale Events

RackNerd runs promos for every major holiday: New Year, Valentine's, July 4th, Halloween, Black Friday, Christmas. Prices are nearly identical across events.

๐Ÿ”’

Price Lock

Your signup price = your renewal price. No tricks, no "introductory pricing." This is verified across Reddit, LowEndTalk, and Trustpilot reviews.

๐Ÿ“ˆ

Specs Improve

Over time, RackNerd increases specs at the same price point. The $10.18/yr plan went from 768MB RAM (2023) to 1GB RAM (2024-2026).

Best Plans by Use Case

1

Personal Blog / Small WordPress Site

1GB RAM ($10.18/yr)

Enough for LEMP stack + WordPress with 10-30K monthly visitors. Install Redis for caching.

2

Multiple WordPress Sites

2.5GB RAM ($20.98/yr)

Run 3-5 WordPress sites comfortably. Use Nginx virtual hosts. Most popular choice.

3

VPN / Proxy Server

1GB RAM ($10.18/yr)

More than enough for WireGuard or OpenVPN. Choose LA DC-02 for best Asia routing.

4

Self-Hosting (Nextcloud, Gitea)

2.5-4GB RAM ($20.98-$29.49/yr)

Nextcloud needs 2GB+ RAM. Gitea runs fine on 1GB but benefits from more for CI/CD.

5

AI Bot Hosting / API Backend

4.5GB RAM ($39.89/yr)

Run lightweight AI inference, Discord bots, or API backends. 4 vCPU handles concurrent requests well.

6

Game Server (Minecraft, etc.)

4GB RAM ($29.49/yr)

Minecraft needs 2-4GB RAM depending on player count. 2 vCPU is sufficient for 10-15 players.

The base price ($10.18/yr) hasn't changed since 2023, but specs keep getting better โ€” the same price got you 768MB RAM in 2023, now it's 1GB. No real reason to wait for a "better" sale. Just buy when you need it.

Tips to Get the Best Price

๐Ÿ”—

Check Old Promo Links

Visit racknerdtracker.com for a community list of all promo URLs. Older links sometimes still work and may offer different configurations.

๐Ÿ“†

Pay Annually

All promo prices are annual. Monthly billing is available on regular plans but costs significantly more. Annual = best value.

๐Ÿ”„

Buy New, Don't Upgrade

Upgrading an existing VPS moves you to regular pricing. Instead, buy a new promo VPS during the next sale and migrate your data.

๐ŸŒ

Test Before Buying

RackNerd provides test IPs for each data center. Run ping tests and traceroutes from your target audience's location before choosing.

๐Ÿ“ฆ

Right-Size Your Plan

Start with the cheapest plan that meets your needs. You can always buy a bigger VPS later during the next sale.

๐Ÿ‘€

Watch for Flash Sales

Follow RackNerd on Twitter/X and check LowEndTalk. Flash sales sometimes offer unique configurations not available during regular promos.

Frequently Asked Questions

VPS Pitfalls I Learned the Hard Way

  • โŒUnmanaged VPS means YOU handle security patches, firewall rules, and backups. If you're not comfortable with SSH, start with managed.
  • โŒ"Unlimited bandwidth" on budget VPS usually means a 1Gbps shared port โ€” during peak hours you might get 100Mbps actual throughput.
  • โŒDon't skip backups because "it's a VPS." I lost a client's staging server because I assumed the provider had automatic snapshots. They didn't.
  • โŒCheck the virtualization type: KVM > OpenVZ for isolation and kernel control. Some cheap deals are still OpenVZ.
I once spent 6 hours debugging a Node.js app that worked locally but crashed on a $3/yr VPS โ€” turned out it only had 256MB RAM and the OOM killer was silently terminating my process. Lesson: if the deal seems too good, check the RAM.
